Female escapes by using knife to stab suspect in hand while being choked

New Haven Police Officer Rob Kuhlmann responded for a report of an assault Sat., Oct. 22 at approximately 6 a.m. in the 900 block on Olive Street. When Kuhlmann arrived a male subject was standing outside of the residence bleeding from his hand.  The male subject stated that his sister had stabbed him.  EMS was requested to the scene and off duty officers; Sgt. Meg Parks and officer David Burke also responded to assist.

LESLIE: Obituary: Kathleen A. Schmitt (February 22, 1934 - October 27, 2011)

Kathleen Agnes Schmitt, nee Ballmann, 77, of Leslie, Mo. passed away on Thurs., Oct. 27, 2011.

Mrs. Schmitt is survived by her husband Ralph Schmitt of Leslie.  She is also survived by three sons, Robert Schmitt and wife Pakaiwan of Chicago, Il.; Richard Schmitt and wife Diana of Ballwin, Mo.; and Kenneth Schmitt and wife Theresa of Rock Port, In.; two daughters Ruth Haase and husband Howard of Gerald; and Donna Schmitt of Fenton; and 5 grandchildren.

Lady Rocks will play for District Championship

The Lady Rocks won easy in their first game in district play defeating Calvery Lutheran. (25-6, 25-7)

New Haven will play the winner of the game currently being played between Chamois and Cross Roads.

New Haven Preservation Society Holiday Bazaar this Saturday

The Annual Holiday Bazaar, sponsored by the New Haven Preservation Society, is this Saturday, October 29 from 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This event will be held at the Old New Haven School, 810 Maupin Avenue, New Haven, Mo.  Many artisans will be selling items for your browsing and buying pleasure.

Nixon signs "Facebook Fix" into law

On Friday, Tim Sampson with Missouri News Horizon reported that the so-called “Facebook Fix” was signed into law by Nixon, which modifies the rules for student-teacher online communications as defined in the Amy Hestir Student Protection Act, which passed earlier this year. The social media provision in the original bill met outcry from teachers groups, who were concerned about the ambiguity of the language. Nixon added the issue to the agenda for the special session, asking that lawmakers repeal the language from the bill.

Senior Kim Conner is very involved at New Haven High School. She has been on the girl’s basketball team all four years, participated in the girls’ volleyball team her freshman year through her junior year, and chose to join softball this year.

American Cancer Society seeks to put tobacco tax hike on 2012 ballot

– The price of smoking in Missouri could soon see a substantial price increase if a new voter-driven petition effort is successful.

This week, the Secretary of State gave approval to a group led by the American Cancer Society to begin circulating a petition that would put a four-cent per cigarette tax increase on ballot.

Frances L. Rowley Ray, 79, of Washington, Mo., passed away on Mon., Oct. 24, 2011.

Mrs. Rowley is survived by her sons, Doug Rowley and wife Marcia of Washington and Larry Rowley and wife Barbara of Union; 3 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Frances L. Rowley Ray will be held Wed., Oct. 26, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation at the Oltmann Funeral Home Chapel. 

Memorials may be given to the Loving Hearts Outreach.

Franklin County Sheriff releases statement on Saturday night's standoff

This past weekend on Saturday at approximately 8:30 PM, the Franklin County Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called to assist New Haven Police with an assault where the suspect was possibly armed and would not respond to attempted contacts at his residence by New Haven Police.
