School district revamps school's website

The New Haven School District recently revamped their website.  They have added sports schedules, school events, as well as the district’s newsletter.

The district is able to save money by putting these types of documents online, where as in the past they would have been printed and then mailed out.

Who ever came up with the idea of a pig scramble

Who in the world ever came up with the idea of a pig scramble?

An area of dirt is fenced in and then dowsed with water creating a huge muddy pit.  Participants are then split up into age groups.  The pigs start out small for the younger age groups and get bigger for the older age groups.

Flooding affects Amtrak service in Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Amtrak service between Kansas City and St. Louis continues to be affected by flooding.  Passengers with travel plans on this route are urged to call 800-USA-RAIL for additional information.

Missouri River Runner (Trains 311 & 316)
Through Sunday, July 24, one of the Amtrak Missouri River Runner round-trips between St. Louis and Kansas City is temporarily suspended.  This is due to the diversion of additional Union Pacific Railroad freight traffic from flooded tracks onto the Union Pacific route used by the Missouri River Runner trains west of Jefferson City.

1st Annual Franklin County "First Responder Foot Pursuit" 5k run/walk

The Franklin County Association of Deputy Sheriff’s along with the Missouri Sheriff’s Training Academy class 162 would like to announce the 1st Annual Franklin County “First Responder Foot Pursuit” 5K Run/Fun Walk. This event will be held Saturday September 10th, 2011 at the Rotary Pavilion located in Union, Missouri across from the Union City pool starting at 8 a.m.

Sunday demonstrated another day rich in history at Threshing Show

Sunday demonstrated another day rich in history at the 49th Annual Steam Engine and Threshing Show in Rosebud, Missouri.  It began with a church service by Reverend Terry Knight; featured lumber sawing and grain threshing demonstrations, driven by steam engine; a chicken dinner at noon, and ended with the tractor parade and kids pedal tractor pull.

Extra Extra read all about it

Today Leader Publishing is printing the New Haven Youth Fair Limited Edition paper.  The last time a paper was printed locally my dad was four-years-old. 

Today marks the end of 46 years of news printed in other cities.  New Haven once again has a locally owned, operated, and now a locally printed news paper limited edition.

An Electrifying Tug-of-War Friday night at 2011 Youth Fair

The tug of war has become one of the main events at the New Haven Community Youth Fair on Friday night.  An estimated 800 to 900 people came out to watch the tug-of-war.  Teams with matching uniforms, face pant, and t-shirts were all a part of the intense competition.  There were team names such as Life Savers, Piggy Pullers, Stony Hill Mafia, and Kloppe Dairy Pulling Team.  Teams even had their own coaches.
