Locust Street between Maupin Street and Olive Street CLOSED today for street maintenance

Locust Street between Maupin and Olive Street will be closed today.

The Street Department is removing areas of bad pavement today and then will be repaving those areas.  Today’s project is part of the city’s regular maintenance and upkeep of city streets in New Haven.

Missouri wins share of Midwestern railway grant

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- MISSOURI NEWS HORIZON -- Brand new passenger cars will soon be traversing the Amtrak rails between St. Louis in Kanas City, as it was announced Wednesday that Missouri will be sharing a $268 million federal railway development award with three other Midwestern states.

Paving at high school was finished today - Additional improvements completed during summer months

Next Wednesday, when parents begin taking their kids to school and students start entering the hallways for the first time since last May, they will notice a few improvements the School District has done during the summer months.

Washington law makers putting pressure on U.S. Army Corps

– As flood waters continue to recede, Washington lawmakers are putting public pressure on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to quickly revise their plan for managing the Missouri River.

School begins next Wednesday- Cross Country Team gearing up for this year's season

It is hard to believe that the first day of school is next Wednesday, however the Cross Country team began their season this past Monday in preparation for their first race on Sept 3, which will be held in the City Park.

Cheif Sheible gives monthly crime report at Monday's City Meeting

Police Chief John Sheible delivered his monthly report during the city meeting Monday night. 

The July police report included 57 traffic stops, 45 assigned cases, and 463 calls for service.  Sheible said, "Robert Joyce resigned from the force on July 28, after being employed with the department for only 21 days.  Rob Kuhlman will start on the force immediately working weekends and wil become full time on August 12."

Catawba Street hot topic of last night's New Haven Board of Aldermen meeeting

The New Haven Board of Aldermen met at a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, August 8, 2011.  The board reviewed, discussed, and approved various items throughout the meeting.

Nathan Parmentier was appointed to the New Haven Park Board, replacing Jana Monzyk following her resignation because she no longer lives within the city limits of New Haven.

East Central wrapping up building renovation project

Last Thursday, workers put up the logo on the stair tower of the Administration Building on the Union campus, one of the final steps of the renovation project.

Missouri soldiers killed this past weekend in Afghanistan

-- Senator Roy Blunt is sending out condolences to the families of Missouri soldiers killed in the crash of a military helicopter in Afghanistan.

Marine Leroy Hahne Memorial Service - An American hero and a hero to the New Haven Community

Vietnam veteran Leroy Hahne passed away Wed., August 3, 2011 at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer.  Hahne enlisted into the Marine Corp in 1961 and served during the Vietnam Conflict until 1964.

Sunday afternoon, a memorial service was held at the American Legion Hall Post 366 to celebrate Hahne’s life and to honor him for serving his country; but more so for serving his community.

Beautiful weather and a great day for golf - School Board Tournament a success

 
The 22nd Annual New Haven School Board Scholarship Golf Tournament was held this afternoon at the Franklin County Country Club.  There were 68 golfers who turned out to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of golf and show their support for the New Haven School District.

The 22nd Annual New Haven School Board Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament today at Franklin County Country Club

The 2011 New Haven School Board Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament is being held today at Franklin County Country Club.

The proceeds from the event will go towards the School Board's Scholarship Fund, which is used to award scholarships to graduating seniors.

Last year’s receipents were Taylor Coop, Julie Scheer, Eric Engelbrecht, and Austin Peirick who each received a $750 scholarship.

Woman sentenced to prison for seven years for stealing the identity of her special needs sister

Assistant Chief Tan Terry spoke with QNHN this morning.  Terry said, “Sergeant Meg Parks had began an investigation into Rebecca Cagle who had been suspected of passing bad checks in New Haven.”  Parks quickly learned during her investigation that Cagle did not have a checking account and was in a nursing facility because of her handicap.  During Parks investigation she located a Missouri ID in Cagle’s name however the photo of a female was later identified as Cagle’s sister, Katrina Oldham.

No Child Left Behind Act is in need of revision

Parents or Guardians with children in the New Haven School District should have received a letter this past week from the district’s Superintendent, Kyle Kruse, in regards to the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).  The NCLB legislation was signed by former President George W Bush in 2001 requiring every child in America to be proficient in reading and writing by 2014.
