Missouri lawmaker praises Supreme Court’s decision to take up health care law

. – Missouri’s Republican Senator was quick to praise the Supreme Court’s announcement that it would be taking up one of the law suits filed against last year’s national health care reform law.

Numbers down for first weekend of hunting season

, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Conservation says warm weather is to blame for lower than usual deer kill numbers on the first weekend of hunting season.

But conservation department researchers also say the lower deer kill has something to do with a reduction in the state’s deer herd.

McDonald and Pecaut receive All-State Honors

Elise McDonald was voted to the Missouri High School Volleyball Coaches Association (MHSVCA) Class 1 -- 1st Team All-State.  This is McDonald’s second year in a row to receive this honor.

Blunt sponsors internet sales tax bill

Young deer hunters have a good weekend

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. 

Hunters age 6 through 15 checked 16,392 deer during the first weekend of Missouri’s youth deer hunt Nov. 5 and 6, a 13-percent increase from last year’s figure.

Top harvest counties for the early portion of the youth hunt were Osage with 369 deer checked, Franklin with 331 and Howell with 316.

Amtrak ridership continues steady increase

. -- MoDOT officials say increased on-time performance is leading to more people traveling the state by rail.

Michelle Teel, the multi-modal operations director for the agency told a House committee Thursday that ridership on Amtrak is up by 16 percent over last year. Teel said the increase continues a five year trend.

Three New Physicians Join Mercy

William Harris, DO, has joined Mercy Clinic Surgical Specialists in Washington. Dr. Harris is an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Harris received his doctor of osteopathy at Kirksville Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo., and completed his residency at Warren General Hospital Orthopedic Surgery in Ohio.

Shamrock Basketball State Teams will be inducted into Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

RCS to host St. Louis Ukulele Club Tomorrow Night - Great food and great music makes for a great Saturday night

The St. Louis Ukulele Club (SLUG), led by Karl Markl of South County Vintage Instruments, will be performing at the Riverfront Cultural Society in downtown New Haven, Mo tomorrow night from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Admission is $10.

Chili Mac and Brread Pudding will be served before the show tomorrow night.  This will be the Riverfront Cultural Society's last fund raiser for the year.  They need your support, great food, great music, would make for a great saturday night.

New Park Board assignments passed at last night's Gerald City Council Meeting

Without much discussion, the issue of assigning new members to the Gerald Park Board was settled at last night's Gerald City Council Meeting. 

Two of the four elected to the board, Heather Baser, and Melissa Lottmann were nominated at last month's meeting, but were not approved by the aldermen.  Lottmann walked out of last month's meeting stating that she "would not be a part of it" due to the arguing that came with the appointments. 

Four Lady Shamrocks named to All-Region team

The Missouri High School Volleyball Coaches Association announced the Central/South Central All-Region team.  Senior Elise McDonald and junior Kelsey Pecaut were voted 2nd Team and senior Blake Willimann and sophomore Rachel Steinhoff both named Honorable Mention.

ECC College Board of Trustees meeting Nov. 8 approves insurance coverage, purchase of lathes for precision machining program

East Central College will see a reduction in insurance rates for 2012 with a change in providers for health and dental insurance for college employees. Approval came at the Nov. 7 meeting of the college board of trustees.
