ST. LOUIS, Dec. 11, 2012 –Tuesday The Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, will perform in St. Louis on May 3 & 4, 2014, the team recently announced.

The Blue Angels performances will headline the first air show to be held at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield since 2007.

In 1992, Tim Strobel became the Junior Varsity boys’ basketball Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach, which turned out to be the missing link to the men’s basketball program and eventually formed the Steinhoff/ Strobel era.

Regardless of one’s opinion of Mr. Strobel it cannot be argued that he coached because of his love for New Haven High School and for the kids, while he refused to accept a single penny for coaching; instead he wanted his portion given to other coaches.

--Missouri U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill is facing pressure from her own Democratic base as national leaders continue to search for a fix to the nation’s looming fiscal cliff.

On Friday, a group of Democratic organizations — including ASFCME, SEIU, and the National Educators Association — launched a new television ad in Missouri urging McCaskill to oppose “any cuts” to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Approximately 250,000 people in the United States suffer from muscular dystrophy, which occurs when damaged muscle tissue is replaced with fibrous, bony or fatty tissue and loses function.

Three years ago, University of Missouri scientists found a molecular compound that is vital to curing the disease, but they didn’t know how to make the compound bind to the muscle cells.

New Haven, Mo. – Winter Ball and a Friday night game Montgomery County knew they had their hands full not only playing at New Haven but coming in losing to the Shamrocks two weeks ago in the Montgomery County Tournament.

Despite injuries and foul trouble New Haven nearly pulled off another come from behind win but late in the fourth Montgomery County maintained their composer, sneaking away with a four point win, 45-41.

Gregory Martin Sheehan, Jr., 71, of New Haven, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Mercy Hospital, Washington, Missouri.

Mr. Sheehan was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on January 4, 1941, the son of the late Gregory Martin, Sr. and Mary Jane (Hassman) Sheehan.

--It’s not about what you know but who you know.  Saturday afternoon the New Haven Preservation Society’s connection at the North Pole made it possible for Santa Claus to stop by the Walt Theater for the sixth straight year.

New Haven, Mo. – Friday night, between the junior varsity and varsity games, Mariah Williams and Curtis Kotthoff were crowned the 2012 Winter Ball King and Queen in front of a packed house.

The junior candidate and newly crowned Queen, Mariah Williams, is the daughter of Charisma and Marques Wright. Mariah is a member of the Pep Squad and Track and Field Team.

She enjoys hanging out with all of her wonderful friends, listening to Justin Bieber, and of course, loves shopping.  Mariah plans to pursue a career in special education, get married, and start a family in the future.

December 7, 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed the nation for a reason that every President fears of having to do.  On this date, 71 years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered the greatest speech in our country’s history about one of the worst attacks our country had ever witnessed.

ST. LOUIS, Mo – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) expects a spike in participation by Missouri student archers with the recent announcement by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) that it will hold its 2013 NASP World Championship in St. Louis.

The event will be held June 28-30 at the America Center and Edward Jones Dome, home of the St. Louis Rams.

Seth Schenck scored a career high of 21 points, draining a career high of five three-pointers, and tying a career best of six assists in Tuesday’s pounding on Grandview in their home opener with a final of 56-25, improving to 4-1.  The Shamrocks led 31-4 at halftime; New Haven’s starting five played very little in the second half, sitting out the entire fourth quarter.

--Approximately 65.7 percent of registered voters participated in elections earlier this year, Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan said Wednesday.

Voter turnout was down from both 2008 — when 69 percent of registered voters cast their ballots — and from Carnahan’s own prediction of 72 percent. About 2.7 million cast ballots this year, with the highest turnout reported from Osage County.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – An estimated 1.5 million individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) live in the United States, according to the Autism Society of America.

Despite extensive research on children with autism, little is known about what happens to these individuals when they grow up, particularly with regard to their employment situations.

New Haven, Mo. – I bet few people, including myself, knew that New Haven has a Community Christmas Tree.  In fact we’ve had the tree for four years after Hennigs Automotive donated the tree in 2008, at the time known as GDX.

The annual event has traditionally marked the beginning of the holiday season, however with the unusually warm temperatures it felt like summer in December.  On the flip side, the weather encouraged people to tour houses, resulting in one of the largest turnouts in its history.

ST. LOUIS – A Missouri lawmaker wants you to enjoy your turkey and pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, but not buy a LCD high-definition TV at a low, low price.

State Rep. Jeff Roorda, D-Barnhart, has pre-filed what he calls the Thanksgiving Family Protection Act, which would prohibit all retail establishments except restaurants, gas stations and drug stores from opening on Thanksgiving.
