Fireworks tonight on the Hermann River front and day long events

Tonight, Hermann will have their annual fireworks display on the river front beginning at 9 p.m.

Other events going on the during the day include:
5:00 p.m. Kiddie Tractor Pull Contest

Fair queen contestants gearing up for the fair

Kaylin Bade has been the Miss Franklin County Fair Queen Pageant Chairwoman since 2004.  This position entails obtaining contestants, this happens each February, Franklin County 4-H and FFA members are encouraged to enter through newspaper ads and a personal letter.

Widespread damage in Warrenton from 70 m.p.h. winds today

The City of Warrenton sustained tens of thousands -- perhaps hundreds of thousands -- of dollars in damage this afternoon.  At about 4:00 p.m, 70 m.p.h. winds smacked the entire city.  For the full story, click here.

Olive street bridge replacement will include pedestrian walkway - 80% funded through federal grant

The City of New Haven anticipates that work on the Olive Street bridge replacement project will begin later this month. Citizens should be prepared for a road closure of up to 30 days once the project begins.

How one person celebrated her 70th birthday in unusual fashion - Includes video of 70-year-old's ride on the ECO ZipLine

This past Sunday, Janice Cutright celebrated her 70th birthday.  Most people who turn 70 may have a little get-together with family and friends, eat cake, and talk about how it feels to be 70.

Cutright on the other hand, had a completely different way of thinking.  To give you an idea of how energetic, full of life, and maybe just a little crazy (in a very good way), Cutright wrote this poem in the invitation she sent out.

Week long basketball camp came to an end today

Today was the last day of basketball camp, which began Monday of this week.  Coach Ray Steinhoff's goal for his younger group was, "simply have fun."

Missouri State Highway Patrol to aggressively enforce all traffic violations this 4th of July weekend

Missouri State Highway Patrol will be conducting two projects throughout the Fourth of July holiday weekend, in an effort to promote safety and to reduce the number of crashes in the Troop C area. Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) will be conducted on Interstates 270, 70, 64, 55, 44, and U.S. Highway 40/61. This effort will run the entire holiday counting period which starts this evening and will continue until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 4, 2011.

What it takes to be the next state champion

Today was the finial day of the boy’s basketball camp.  All week Coach Ray Steinhoff has put emphasis on, “what it takes to be the next state champion”.  Hard work, perseverance, team sport, skill, and confidence are a few things listed on the back of each shirt players were given as a reminder of what can be achieved if you give 110% day in and day out.

Tomorrow night marks the end of summer baseball and softball.  There are games at both Lions and Bock in the city park. 

If you haven’t made it out to watch, tomorrow is your last chance.

Shamrock players sharpen their skills during summer camp

Summer basketball camp is being held at New Haven High School this week.  Coach Ray Steinhoff hosts the camp every year to help players develop their skills as well has have fun.  Steinhoff does two sessions, one for high school kids in the morning and grade school kids in the afternoon.

EDITORIAL: iPhones are great and life is too fast

Four years ago today in 2007 the first iPhone went on sale in the United States.

It's hard to believe how much has changed the way we live our lives since the iPhone was invented.  Even if you don't have an iPhone you can probably still look back and see how different your life was compared to now.
