Celebrating 50th Wedding Anniversary

Jim and Melva Wurtz of Stony Hill will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sat., Jan. 14.

Mr. and Mrs. Wurtz were married at St. James Church in Stony Hill on Jan. 14 1962 by the Rev. Edward Mayer.

Jim and Melva have two sons, Jeff of Union, Mo. and Jerry of Stony Hill.

Late registration opens January 3 at East Central College

Tuesday, January 3, marks the first day of the late registration period at East Central College.

Advisors will be available January 3 - 7 to assist new and returning students with the enrollment process.  A special registration session is scheduled at the Union campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 7.  Spring semester classes begin Monday, January 9.

OBITUARY: New Haven: Terrance Patrick Moynahan (February 19, 1929 - December 4, 2011)

Terrance Patrick Moynahan, 82, of New Haven, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Moynahan was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 19, 1929, the son of the late James Moynahan and Ollie Knight.

He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He was the warehouse manager for R & F Spaghetti Company.  He enjoyed collecting coins & loved to read.

Fourth Annual Celebration of Christmas at East Central College

Union Mo. - To kick off the holiday season, the East Central College Music and Theatre Departments will present “An Old Fashioned Christmas,” the fourth annual celebration of the holidays. Christmas carols and stories and will be featured, along with a sing-a-long and refreshments.

The event is being made possible with the financial support of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Hebbeler and Mr. and Mrs. John R. Thompson.

OBITUARY: Union: Jeanne Amerette Fink (June 11, 1924 - November 29, 2011)

Jeanne Fink, 87, of Union passed away Tues., Nov. 29, 2011.

She is survived by her husband Emmet Fink of Union.  She is also survived by two daughters, Prudence Fink Johnson and husband Nils of Union; and Patience Fleer and husband Roger of Washington.

A memorial service will be held Dec. 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Union.

Memorials are preferred to the Franklin County Public School Retirees Association.

Holiday decorations have already started appearing throughout the state capitol. The public is invited to tour the Governor’s Mansion this weekend to view its decorations.

ECC Offering Cookie Decorating and Soup Making Classes in December

The holiday season usually means more time in the kitchen so East Central College is offering two cooking related continuing education classes in early December.

On Tuesday, December 6, Christmas Cookie Decorating will take place at ECC’s site at Four Rivers Career Center in Washington from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Bank of Franklin County "Shamrock Debit Card" Coming Mid-December

Missouri State High Patrol prepares for Thanksgiving Travel

Missouri State Highway Patrol announces that Troop C officers will conduct two enforcement projects throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

These projects are intended to promote safety and to reduce the number of crashes in the Troop C area. Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) will be conducted on Interstates 270, 70, 64, 55, 44, and U.S. Highway 61. On Wednesday, November 23, 2011, and Sunday, November 27, 2011, Troop C has scheduled a 20-mile Trooper Enforcement Operation on Interstates 70 and 44, as well as some secondary roadways.
