The Conservation Commission met Dec. 14 and 15 at Conservation Commission Headquarters in Jefferson City. Commissioners present were:  Don R. Johnson, Festus, Chair; Don C. Bedell, Sikeston, Vice Chair; Becky L. Plattner, Grand Pass, Secretary; James T. Blair, IV, St. Louis, Member

REGULATIONS

The Commission approved the following 2012 hunting-season dates.

JEFFERSON CITY – Jim Low - Hunters checked 14,439 deer during Missouri’s antlerless deer season Nov. 23 through Dec. 4.
 

November deer harvest tops last year’s figure

Missouri’s robust deer herd continues to pump millions into the state’s economy annually and supports 11,000 Show-Me State jobs.
 
JEFFERSON CITY–Hunters checked 190,089 deer during Missouri’s 11-day November firearms deer hunt, slightly surpassing last year’s figure despite a slow start on opening weekend.
 

Numbers down for first weekend of hunting season

, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Conservation says warm weather is to blame for lower than usual deer kill numbers on the first weekend of hunting season.

But conservation department researchers also say the lower deer kill has something to do with a reduction in the state’s deer herd.

Hunters age 6 through 15 checked 16,392 deer during the first weekend of Missouri’s youth deer hunt Nov. 5 and 6, a 13-percent increase from last year’s figure.

Top harvest counties for the early portion of the youth hunt were Osage with 369 deer checked, Franklin with 331 and Howell with 316.
