Chloe Wells to Miss Remainder of the 2011-12 Season

DURHAM, N.C. – Blue Devil sophomore Chloe Wells will not be enrolled at Duke University for the spring 2012 semester due to violation of university policy.

A native of Colton, Calif., Wells had started the first 10 games for the Blue Devils averaging 10.4 points, 4.0 assists, 3.6 steals and 2.1 rebounds.  The 5-7 guard scored double-figures in eight of the 10 contests she played in.

Williams Selected ACC Rookie of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. – For the second time over the last three weeks, Duke University freshman Elizabeth Williams has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week on Monday by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.

Williams averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks on the week as the Blue Devils split their two contests.  The Virginia Beach, Va., native also hit 18-of-24 field goals for a 75.0 field goal percentage.

Selby Suspended Indefinitely From the Duke Women’s Basketball Program

DURHAM, N.C. -  Duke Women’s Basketball head coach Joanne P. McCallie announced on Tuesday that Blue Devil senior Shay Selby has been suspended indefinitely from the program for violation of team rules.

Duke Downs Lander, 79-52, in Final Exhibition Game

DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomores Chelsea Gray and Chloe Wells scored 18 points each while freshman Elizabeth Williams added 17 in a 79-52 victory over Lander Sunday in Duke’s final exhibition game of the 2011-12 season.

Duke controlled the pace of the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 20-9 lead in the first eight minutes of play. The Blue Devils also applied strong defensive pressure in the early going, forcing six turnovers while notching six steals and four blocks.

Duke Routs Pfeiffer, 112-27, in Exhibition Action

DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman Elizabeth Williams scored 21 points and added nine rebounds and seven blocks in her Duke debut to lead the Blue Devils to a 112-27 victory over Pfeiffer in women’s basketball exhibition action Thursday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Five other Duke players scored in double figures as the team opened the 2011-12 season with a strong offensive output.

DURHAM, N.C. -  The preseason Associated Press poll was released on Saturday with the Duke women’s basketball team listed No. 8 by a vote of the media members.  The Blue Devils have now been listed in the preseason Associated Press top 10 for 11 straight years.
