2nd Annual Backyard Barbecue this Saturday - Come get your cook on

The second annual Backyard Barbecue Competition of the New Haven Community Youth Fair will begin on Saturday, July 16th. The event will be sponsored this year by Missouri Eagle, Ozark National Life, and Wal-mart. Entry fee is $10 for any and all divisions. Registration for the Barbecue Competition will be held from 8 to 9 a.m.

There will be three divisions in the competition:
Division 1 entries will include Pork Steaks.
Division 2 will include Pork Ribs.
Division 2 will include hot wings bragging rights.

Rules and Guidelines:
Anyone over 18 may enter. Contestants must furnish their own barbecue grill, equipment, sauce and meat. Grilling will be with charcoal only, no gas grills allowed. Entries will be judged on thoroughness of cooking, taste and tenderness. Prizes will be awarded following the judging. Meat used will be pork steaks and/or pork ribs only. Entrants must turn in two pork steaks in a styrofoam box and/or six pork ribs in a styrofoam box (provided by fair). No garnishments allowed. Cash prizes will be awarded at 5 p.m. in division one and two of $100, $60, and $40.

If participants compete in the pork steak or pork rib contest, they may also compete for bragging rights in the Hot Wing Competition! Rules covering the wings contest include: wings must be brought to the sign-in table at 1 p.m. Contestants may refill platters throughout judging. Voting ends at 2 p.m. Judging will be done by spectator vote. The top vote-getter will be awarded a trophy, apron, sauce, and bragging rights for serving up the best hot wings.

No fire can be built on the ground and participants are asked not to dump live coals on the ground. Trash barrels will be provided for the disposal of charcoal. For more information call Keith Davis at 573-821-3259.
