Washington Mo. - New Haven’s 4th grade basketball team played in the championship game of Washington’s fourth grade tournament this afternoon against Washington’s select team of players from around the Washington area.  Some may have considered this a David vs Goliath match.

The young Shamrocks fought back after being down by five, early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 16 a piece.  With just 15 seconds left in the game New Haven worked at getting good shot to pull off a come back win.  The Rocks got the shot they wanted but missed, however they came up with the offensive rebound and was fouled as they went up to lay it in.

Two free throws and a chance to take a two-point lead with eight seconds left.  They missed the first free throw, but Washington was called for a lane violation.  The Rocks capitalized by knocking in two clutch free throws and taking a two-point lead.

Washington pushed the ball up the court as New Haven played great defense, less than five seconds to go, then two seconds, and a last desperation shot from behind the arc, hit nothing but the bottom of the net as time expired and stealing a win from New Haven 19-18.

You almost have to see it to believe it and fortunately we have video of the last 16 minutes of pure edge of your seat, gut wrenching excitement complements of Jason Pilarski who caught all the excitement on film.
