The Shamrock Cross Country team kicks off their season tomorrow morning in the city park at New Haven.  The Rocks are hosting their Annual New Haven “Short Course” Cross Country Invitational.  (Note: There will be a community race that is open to anyone who would like to run the 2.2 mile course, start time will be 10:30 a.m.)

Coach John Tucker designed the 2.2 mile course 13 years ago with the idea for New Haven to host a cross-country race, which had never been done before, and for the Community to have an opportunity to see the Shamrocks run.  Additionally he thought to have a shorter course than the MSHSAA required 3.1 miles, to give other teams the opportunity to have a “season warm up race”.

Each year the “Short Course” has become a bigger event with more schools wanting to attend.  In the past coaches from other schools have commented on how much they love this race because of its shorter distance and it gives them a chance to see how their team performs.

Tomorrows race will feature teams from all over Central Missouri including: New Bloomfield, Columbia Independent, O’Fallon Christian, Chamois, Union, Bourbon, Sullivan, St. Dominic, Linn, Owensville, Hermann, Borgia, and Winfield.

Several hundred people will be in attendance tomorrow.  If you have never been to a Cross Country race tomorrow will be your chance.
