JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The race for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Claire McCaskill just got a little more crowded.

St. Louis businessman John Brunner Monday became the third announced Republican candidate. He joins a field of already-announced candidates former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman and current U.S. Representative Todd Akin

Brunner, 59, is a political novice. He is the chairman of the family business, Vi-Jon Incorporated, a cosmetics and health product company. He is the third generation of his family to run the business that is best known for manufacturing the hand sanitizer Germ-X.

He made his announcement at a company warehouse in St. Charles.
