Rachel Steinhoff is hammered going up for a layup, in what was a physical game last night at Cuba.

Cuba, Mo. – New Haven had their chances to pick up, what would have been a big win in last night’s battle with the Cuba Wildcats, but missed opportunities and giving up a seven point halftime lead let the Wildcats steal the win 46-43.

New Haven led by two going into the fourth quarter, 32-34 and were able to take a four point lead at the seven minute mark.  The Lady Rocks clung to a one point lead, 35-36, when a pass went through the hands of Elise McDonald, when Cuba capitalized of the turnover to take the lead with 5:20 to go.

The Lady Rocks trailed by two with under 10 seconds to go when Emily Kallmeyer drove down the lane, drawing the foul, sending her to the line with only 2.8 seconds left and a chance to tie the game.  But Kallmeyer missed them both and causing the Lady Rocks to foul, leaving only 1.8 seconds on the clock and after Abby Hutson knocked down one of two and slipping past New Haven by three.

Kierstin Monzyk puts in a layup after a steal in the second quarter.

Rachel Steinhoff’s game high 16 points and Kayla Oetterer adding 15 was not enough for the Lady Rocks.  Turnovers and New Haven’s 3-7 from the line in the fourth quarter ultimately caught up with the Rocks giving them their fourth loss of the season.

With last night’s loss New Haven falls to 5-4 on the season.  Next week the Lady Rocks will play in the South Callaway Tournament, seeded fifth and will play the number four seed North Callaway at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
