"The things that the flag stands for were created by the experiences of a great people. Everything that it stands for was written by their lives. The flag is the embodiment, not of sentiment, but of history." (Woodrow Wilson, June 14, 1915, Flag Day)

It was in 1916 when President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14.  However it was in 1949 when a congressional legislation designating that date as the national Flag Day was signed into law by President Harry Truma

So if you are not one who flies the American Flag everyday, take a moment today and put your flag up and honor all those men and women who have and continue to protect the freedoms we enjoy everyday.
