–- The Lady Rocks are amongst 48 teams competing in the 24th annual SEMO Spike High School Volleyball Tournament this weekend.

The Rocks played two games last night and will play tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. against Sikeston.

6:10 p.m. game

The Lady Rocks faced Cootar in their first two set match last night winning 25-20, 25-24.

The Rocks were lucky to win both sets committing 20 errors in the first set alone.  They seem sluggish; poor passing and too often out of position.  There was also a lack of communication and energy from the Rocks but somehow they were able to pull it off.

7:50 p.m. game
The Rocks went up against Scott City who is currently ranked 5th in the state Class 2 by Max/Preps with a record of 4-0.

Scott City pounded the ball against the Rocks defeating them 11-25.  However, the second set the Rocks showed for the first time this season their potential and how good they could be.

The Rocks took an early lead 15-12 in large part passing the ball better, giving their hitters good sets to swing at, and it was the first time they showed emotion and that drive to win.  Hands down this was the best set of volleyball the Rocks had played all year even though they came up short losing 20-25.

There is a very good chance you will hear a lot about Scott City when the State Tournament begins and I would not be surprised to see them competing in the finial four at the end of the season.

We will keep you posted on today’s games with scores and highlights throughout the day.
