Fair queen contestants gearing up for the fair

Kaylin Bade has been the Miss Franklin County Fair Queen Pageant Chairwoman since 2004.  This position entails obtaining contestants, this happens each February, Franklin County 4-H and FFA members are encouraged to enter through newspaper ads and a personal letter.

Bade takes care of all planning pre-pageant events as described in this article to get the contestants ready for competition; picking out, organizing, purchasing, and finding donations for all of the prizes for the queen and court, the retiring court, the judges, and a gift for each contestant; stay with the newly crowned queen and court throughout the entire fair week and weekend to make sure that they are where they need to be, and helping to prepare the Queen for the Missouri State Fair Queen Pageant.

The Miss Franklin County Fair Queen Contestants are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 2011 Franklin County Fair, beginning this week, July 7. The contestants have attended many events in preparation for the fair, beginning with a Queen Tea with their mothers, held in downtown New Haven at Mary Lou's. Fair Queen 101 at Union High School helped the contestants get ready for the competition. This event included mock interviews, practice of their on stage introduction and questioning, recieving Mary Kay makeovers from Jeanne Leach, a Silpada Jewelry demonstration by Amanda Clary, coaching on their stage walk, and made posters for the Union Memorial Day parade, which they participated in on May 30.

Most recently, the contestants headed to St. Louis for their day in the city which included a stop at the downtown attraction "The Spaghetti Factory" for lunch, and an appearance on Show Me St. Louis to advertise for the fair.

The Franklin County Fair will be held in Union, Missouri July 7-10 and will include an antique tractor pull on Thursday, a field class and pro-stock tractor and truck pull on Friday, Bull Riding and Gloriana on stage Saturday, and a Demolition Derby on Sunday. There are lots of events for kids held each day under the family pavilion as well, including the pedal tractor pull on Thursday, the Little Mr. and Miss Franklin County competition on Saturday, and the Baby Contest on Sunday. Once the Fair Queen and her Court is chosen on Thursday, they will spend the remainder of the fair with Committee Chair Kaylin Bade, attending each event held. They will then continue on in the next year with Mrs. Bade and the committee doing community service projects throughout Franklin County and the surrounding areas. The Queen will have the opportunity to compete at the Missouri State Fair Queen Contest.

The Fair Queen Committee and Fair Board will award the following titles Thursday night: Top Ticket Seller Top Essay Most Community Service
Miss Congeniality (chosen by the contestants on interview night) 2nd Alternate 1st Alternate Miss Franklin County Fair.

Each member of the court and the contestant with the most community service will receive a sizeable scholarship. All contestants will receive jewelry from the fair board. The queen and her court will receive jewelry from Altemueller Jewelry, Brune Jewelry, crown, custom satin embroidered sash, and sash pin, a Gloriana CD, gift certificates to JCPenny's and JF Hair Co, a Queen's tote, and other prizes and gifts. The Queen will also receive a custom crown and State Fair competition assistance and coaching.
