Jefferson City, Mo.
- Gov. Jay Nixon ordered flags at government buildings across Missouri to be flown at half-staff in honor of a St. Louis sailor killed in Oman.

Chief Petty Officer Sean Patrick Sullivan, 40, died from injuries sustained when his helicopter crashed while conducting heavy lift support operations in Oman, the governor’s office said.

“Chief Petty Officer Sullivan served our country with bravery and dedication, and I ask all Missourians to remember his sacrifice when they see the lowered flags,” Nixon said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn for him.”

The flag order takes effect statewide on Wednesday, and is extended at government buildings in St. Louis County from Aug. 2 to Aug. 7.
