Pacific, MoFey Chavez was the lone Shamrock to make First Team All-Conference in more than one event.  Chavez had to cover some ground on Monday to win both the J.V. 1600m and 3200m runs.

Dominic Patakey also took first place in the J.V. 3200m and second place in the 1600m earning him First and Second Team All-Conference Honors.

Senior Michael Leath finished second in100m dash with a time of 11.80 and third in the 200m with a time of 23.76 receiving All-Conference honors in both events.

Will Smith is a finely tuned, intelligent machine when he runs 800m.  Coach John Tucker said, “Will [Smith] has become a very smart runner.  I actually had Pacific’s coach compliment Will about how smart of a race he ran.”

Smith ran a personal best on Monday, earning him a Conference Title.  Smith’s time of 2:03.76 was three seconds faster than Pacific’s Joon Kim, who finished second.

Smith began the race, tucked in between Kim and Pacific’s Cedric Wallace as the three pulled away from the pack.  With 300 meters left,  Smith brilliantly made his move on the backstretch of the final lap and before entering the final turn he had taken the lead.

Smith emerged from the final turn after he had pulled away from both Indians, leaving them in his tracks, crossing the finish line and recording his fastest time in his career.

Tucker said, “Smith ran a really good race and is what he needed to do as we enter districts this Sat.”

New Haven’s five freshman girls that make up the 4x400 and 4x800 were one place shy from making All-Conference, finishing fourth in both events.

New Haven’s 4x400 team ran their second best time on the year, 4:24.59.

Tucker said, “I knew coming into conference we would have a hard time medaling in the majority of events.  Coming into today’s meet, I was more concerned about our times, particularly our relay teams, so we know what we will need to work on in practice to hopefully improve.  I was very happy with the 4x400, they had not ran a good solid race since running their best time at Cuba which was over a week ago.”

Tucker said, “This week during practice we will focus on some of the smaller things, such as making better handoffs during relays, or getting out of the blocks faster.”

The Shamrocks will practice on Thur. and Fri. before heading to the Class 1 district meet.  Saturday is no different than any other sport; all that matters is advancing.

New Haven will travel to Fulton, Mo on Sat. to compete in the Class 1 district meet.  The top four in each event will advance to sectionals the following week.

Date and Time TBD.
