This morning Franklin County R-II honored local veterans, heroes of our community, during this Veterans Day week with breakfast prepared by Becky Purdy, Eldean Brandt, and Sharon Meyer.  Veterans were  honored after breakfast with a musical presentation by R-II’s concert band, under the direction of Jeff Taylor.

R-II’s student council sponsored this morning’s events. Council members helped serve breakfast, refill drinks, and had decorated the cafeteria as a gesture of their appreciation for all those who have and are currently serving our country.

The musical presentation was held immediately following breakfast.  Veterans were escorted into the gymnasium and were greeted with a standing ovation from all the students at R-II.  The loud cheers and clapping hands from students lasted over a minute long, expressing their gratitude towards the men and women who had sacrificed their lives and protected the freedoms enjoyed today.

Carol Laboube in her closing remarks said, “We wanted to show our appreciation for those who have served our country and those who stayed at home and supported them.”  Laboube also said that "we want our students to learn and understand how important it is to support those who have served and are serving our country".  One veteran wiped a tear from his check as they were given another standing ovation.
