Hermann, Mo. – Thanksgiving morning (Thursday) nearly 200 volunteers and participates turned out for the 3rd Annual Turkey Trot 5k walk/run hosted by Hermann Area District Hospital (HADH).  They have hosted the event each year through a collective effort on the parts of local businesses and volunteers.

The Turkey Trot is a true community event.  Local businesses donate items for winners in the different age groups, city employees help set up signs and direct runners where to go, Hermann Police direct traffic when runners cross the highway, and Hermann EMS provides an onsite ambulance along with an additional truck along the course and most importantly those who participated in the 5k run/walk.

Hermann Hospital employee and Event Organizer Susan Lenger said, “The money that we raise goes to make improvements in the park.  Everyone who comes to run or walk also brings canned good item, which are donated to our local food pantry.”

Lenger said that the first year money was used to make improvements at the pool and last year the it went towards redoing the main bathrooms in the park.

This year proceeds will be used to make improvements to the baseball field behind the old middle school making it new ball field for the community.
