Silex, Mo. –  Last night, districts began for the Lady Rocks, which means do or die.  The team’s regular season record means nothing.  Survive to play another day or lose and go home, it is that simple.

Kierstin Monzyk and Brandy Senecal went 3-5 and Rebecca Glasser was 3-4 with two RBI.  Sencal’s third hit of the night in the bottom of the 8th inning was the biggest hit of her life.

In the top of the fifth inning Wellsville scored three runs increasing their lead. (6-2)  The Rocks were running out of innings, but they were not going down with out a fight.

The Rocks were down to their final three outs with their rally caps on, trying to survive.  Monzyk and Duvall started off the inning with two base hits, giving the Rocks a glimmer of hope.  After Senecal flied out, Kayla Oetterer stepped to the plate, one out, and runners on first and second, when the senior came through with a stand up double, knocking one run in. (6-3)

Glasser (senior) kept the rally going after diving into second base, scoring Duvall and making it a two run game.  Senior Abby Menke had maybe the biggest hit of her life, keeping the Rocks alive.  The Lady Rocks scored four runs in the inning to tie the game and send the game into extra innings.

Wellsville had their chance in the 8th, with two out and bases loaded, they were unable to take advantage.

The Lady Rocks carried their momentum into the bottom of the eight. Madison Doyle led off the inning with a base hit and the winning run. Senecal came through in the clutch, knocking in the winning run and for the Rocks to live another day winning 7-6.

Coach Tim Scheer said, “I could not be more proud of our team.  They never gave up.  Our seniors … they came through when we needed them too.  After the game I told our team we can enjoy this win, but after we get off the bus, we focus on Silex.”

The Lady Rocks come right back tonight to play the number one seed, Silex at 5 p.m.  Silex had a first round buy.  Tonight’s game will be a very tough game for the Rocks, but they showed last night what they are capable of.

We will keep you updated on the game inning by inning.
