The Lady Rocks JV squad came into Thursday night’s game 2-0 after wins at Timberland 19-25, 17-25, and Belle 15-25, 18-25.  The Rocks start three freshmen, Mackenzy Vedder, Taylor Covington, and Katie Peirick whom Coach Dennis Carey said have potential to be good players.

Hannah Kassebamm served a team high eight points helping the Lady Rocks defeat O’Fallon Christen in three sets 17-25, 25-17, 25-20.

The Lady Rocks got of to a good start in the first set against O’Fallon Christen taking an early lead 12-7.  Carey said, “We talked about how big they were, we had a couple balls blocked…then got a little tentative swinging at the ball causing us to hit a few balls out of bounds.”

O’Fallon Christen always had two tall girls in their front row, something the Rocks had not yet seen, causing havoc on the Lady Rock's hitters.  O’Fallon Christen out scored the rocks 18 to 10 after being down 12-7 to win the first set.

We asked Coach Carey what he told his team between matches.  Carey said, “We talked about that we needed to mix it up a bit, try to tip it a little bit…try to roll it a little bit.”  The Lady Rocks came out and showed “heart and the desire to win” coming back to win the second set, forcing O’Fallon Christen to change up their game.

Coach Carey said, “I was very pleased how our girls came out in that second set after losing the first one.  They showed poise and played with some heart.”

Christen was not able to adjust to the Lady Rocks tipping and rolling the ball, compared to the first set when the Lady Rocks tried hitting through their blockers.

Coach Carey said, “I was very pleased overall, after losing the first set and having three freshmen starters we came out and adjusted.  After winning the second set I was impressed with how hard they were willing to work and dig deep…play with a lot of heart…overall I thought we played a good third set and good game.”
