Fulton, Mo – The Shamrock Track Team began their post season at Fulton on Saturday in the Class1 District 1 track meet.  Saturday’s goal was finish in the top four and move onto Sectionals.

Coach John Tucker said, “I was very pleased with how everyone performed, particularly with the warm temperatures.  Saturday was by far the warmest temperatures we have ran in all year and yet all our athletes ran the best times they had run all year long.”

Michael Leath took first place in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, breaking his career best times in each event.  To say he had a Superman like performance is an understatement. In order for Leath to make the 100m and 200m finals, Leath had to run in prelims and semi-finals.  Leath finished his day by taking first in the 400m dash and his seventh race of the day.

Leath also reset the school record in the 200m dash (23.45), a record he had broken earlier this year.

New Haven’s “Freshmen Flash” 4x400m relay team and 4x800m team both finished second behind Valle Catholic.  The 4x800m relay team (Taylor Covington, Hannah Pruessner, Hannah Kruse, and Beth Schenck) ran their fastest time of the year (10:38.92) by knocking off six seconds.

The 4x400m team (pictured left Molly Munsinger, Covington, Pressner, and Kurse) shaved two seconds off their best time, finishing second with a time of 4:20.54, less than a second behind Valle Catholic, running a time of 4:19.75.

The girls 4x200m relay team (Emily Grater, Kierstin Monzyk, Meagan Ley, and Munsinger) beat their best time of the year to finish fourth. (1:55.79)

Individually, Will Smith finished fourth with only seven tenths of a second between him and the second place finisher.

Fey Chavez ran her best time of 6:01.63 to finish fourth in the 1600m run.  Pruessner and Kruse also advanced in the 800m run.  Pruessner smashed her best time by 10 seconds (2:34.30) finishing third and Kruse shaved two seconds of her best (2:37.02) to come in fourth place.

Saturday the team will travel to Centralia Mo for the Sectional meet where the top four finishers in each event will move onto the Missouri Class 1 State Track and Field Meet the following week.
