JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- With the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction now named, Senator Claire McCaskill says she supports President Obama’s stance on increasing taxes on wealthy Americans. But she says reforming the tax code is a more important debt fighting strategy. She says taxing the wealthy isn’t the only answer.

McCaskill said, “Frankly, we won’t have to do that if people ignore the special interests and allow us to get some of the goodies out (of the tax code), we wouldn’t have to raise any body’s taxes, we could lower people’s taxes”

McCaskill says the current tax code allows for too many large companies to skirt paying their fair share of taxes. She also supports a cut in payroll taxes as a means to stimulate the economy.
