On Wed., Sept. 14, 2011 QNHN was the only one to cover the McNair Street house fire and we now have updated information with regards to the investigation that took place the following day.

Captain Dan Terry with the New Haven Police Department initiated the investigation, contacting the Franklin County Arson Investigator, Jim Schuhmacher, and an investigator from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).  While the investigation is continuing, it has been determined that the fire started on the outside, rear of the building, under the deck.

The exact cause of the fire has not been determined, however both Schuhmacher and the ATF investigator have called it “suspicious.  Terry said, “We are waiting for information concerning possible lightning strikes in the area that day.”

The city had condemned the residence and the owners had plans for the house to be leveled.
