Missouri firefighters names added to memorial

Missouri News HorizonJEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The names of two Missouri firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2010 will be engraved on a national memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland this weekend.

Marshall firefighter Randall Davenport and Timber Knob volunteer firefighter Donald Schaper died while on duty. Davenport, 37, was found dead in his bunk the morning after responding to two fire calls in Marshall on the evening of October 23, 2010. Schaper, 53 experienced a medical emergency while on the scene of an emergency on April 9, 2010 and later died.

Davenport and Schaper’s names will be among 72 names of firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2010 on a plaque at the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial. National Fallen Firefighters Memorial weekend will be observed this weekend with special services in Maryland this weekend.

The plaques surrounding the memorial, which was created in 1981, contain the names of more than 3,500 firefighters who have died while on duty.

The two firefighters names are already engraved on the Firefighters Memorial of Missouri in Kingdom City during ceremonies there on May 15 of this year.
