JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.
-- Senator Roy Blunt is sending out condolences to the families of Missouri soldiers killed in the crash of a military helicopter in Afghanistan.

So far, The Kansas City Star and KMBC television in Kansas City are reporting two servicemen from the Kansas City area were aboard the Chinook helicopter that went down during a firefight over the weekend. The dead are listed as 31-year-old Bryan Nichols of Kansas City who apparently was one of the chopper’s pilots and Navy Seal Matt Mason of Kearney.

In his statement, Blunt said: “My heartfelt prayers go out to the families and friends who lost their loved ones this weekend. These men bravely served our country and they gave their lives to protect our freedoms, and their selfless sacrifices will never be forgotten.”
