New Haven, Mo. - In early July, 17 members and guests of the New Haven Garden Club toured the Homestead Farms Nursery in Owensville, Mo. Many members came home with exotic day lily or Hosta plants or ordered plants for delivery in early September.

Following the visit to Homestead, members had dinner at a nearby restaurant during which three new members were welcomed:  Mary Ann Carmin, Carol Martin and Tricia Reay.

Unfortunately, due to the intense drought and heat, the club was unable to assemble flower arrangements for the local care centers in July.  It is hoped this project can be resumed in the fall.

At our next meeting, August 14, the New Haven Garden Club will host a speaker, Leslie Mahin.  Ms Mahin is a Franklin County Master Gardener and a Plant Specialist at Hillermann Nursery.

Among other topics she will discuss new theories on tree irrigation management during periods of extreme drought; diseases and pests related to roses and raised gardens.

Members of the community are invited to attend her presentation which will begin at 7:00 P.M. at the Old School Building at 108 Maupin Ave.  There is no charge for this program.
