New Haven cruises past Linn 59-34

New Haven, Mo – New Haven drained five 3s to match their season high and sophomore Rachel Steinhoff and senior Elise McDonald scored a combined 29 points to lead the Lady Shamrocks past Linn 59-34.

Monday night New Haven ended a three game skid to win their 12 game on the year, improving to 12-12.  The hot hand of Steinhoff helped New Haven to jump out to a quick nine-point lead in the first quarter.  Steinhoff scored eight of her game high 15 points by knocking down two from beyond the arc.

McDonald’s eight second quarter points helped New Haven to extend their lead by out scouring the lady wildcats 17-7 in the quarter, giving New Haven a 35-16 halftime lead.  McDonald and Steinhoff were flat out on fire in the first quarters.  McDonald scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half and Steinhoff racked up 13 of her 15 points.

In the third quarter it was Emily Kallmeyer who caught fire, scoring six of her eight points in the quarter.  New Haven rolled through the third quarter and cruised through the fourth, toping Linn by 25.

There was one exciting moment midway through the fourth quarter when sophomore guard Stephanie Scheer ,pictured left, scored her first two points at the varsity level.

New Haven will wrap up their regular season on Wednesday when they will host South Callaway.  There will not be a JV game.  The varsity game will begin at 6 p.m.

New Haven will have a week off before they begin district play.  The Lady Rocks are the number one seed and will play on Thur., Mar. 1 against either Viburnum or Crossroads.

The Class 2 District 4 tournament will be held at Bismarck High School.  Note: if either team would play for first, QNHN will of course bring you live play by play action.
