Washington, Mo. – Saturday night a strong batch of thunderstorms ripped through the Washington Fair grounds causing fair officials to evacuate and close the fair grounds.

In a live interview with Washington Fair’s Public Information Officer Lynn Stewart, “We have had a plan set in place for several years now so in the event something like these happens everyone has a specific location they are assigned to.”

Washington was one of the hardest hit from Saturday night’s storms.  As of 4:45 a.m., 2,500 residents remained without power across the Washington Area.

Later this morning fair crews will be assessing the severity of damages caused by the storm.
