Mexico, Mo - Gov. Jay Nixon is visiting several Missouri veterans nursing homes this week to sign legislation that will provide them with a dedicated funding source.

Nixon kicked off the signing tour Wednesday afternoon in Mexico, Mo., visiting the state run Mexico Veterans Home.

The legislation, passed by the General Assembly in the final week of budget negotiations earlier this month, redirects casino revenue that currently goes to early childhood education to a fund in the Missouri Veterans’ Commission.

The governor’s office said the legislation, House Bill 1731, will benefit more than 1,300 Missouri military veterans.

Nixon is expected to sign the legislation at several other veterans homes later in the week. Thursday, the governor will visit veterans homes in St. Louis and Cape Girardeau.
