The beautiful weather made it a great night for fans to enjoy exciting high school softball.  The Lady Rocks hosted the Tigers of St. James in a Four Rivers Conference game.  Both teams came into tonight’s game each with a 2-7 record on the season and both teams desperately needing a win.

Kayla Oetterer stepped to the plate with the score tied and one out the go ahead run on second.  With one swing of the bat Oetterer crushed a shot to deep center field for a two run blast put the Rocks up 4-2.

Oetterer’s homerun would end up being the game winner after the Tigers were unable to score in the seventh, ending the game (4-2) and improving to 3-7 on the season.  Oetterer finished the game with a double and homerun and knocking in three runs.

Stephanie Scheer pitched a complete game, giving up just two runs on seven hits and striking out two.

Scheer pitched five shut innings before the Tigers would score two runs in the top of sixth tying the game at two.

The Tigers did not help themselves by committing four errors and missed opportunities leaving five runners on base.

Coach Tim Scheer spoke with us after the game about the team's win.  Coach Scheer said, “The past couple of games we really had not played well.  I was pleased with how our girls played tonight.  We were more aggressive at the plate and our defense really played a great game by making plays and being more attentive.  Scheer pitched great, only giving up one walk…she did a nice job of changing speeds and catching hitters off guard.  It is always neat for what ended up being the game winning home run by Oetterer.  We badly needed a win and our girls came out and took care of business.  Very proud of them.”

The Lady Rocks will Saturday at the Owensville Tournament.  They will play at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m.
