Dominick Patakey pulls away from the pack moving into second place.

South Callaway - Friday’s cold and windy weather affected most everyone’s times except the New Haven freshman, Dominick Patakey.  Patakey finished second in the 3200m, running a personal best of 10:55.05.

New Haven has a young and talented group of girls who already have shown signs of potential.  The 4x400 relay team ran their best time (4:22.00) of the year, taking first place at Cuba last week and the 4x800 team took second place.  On Friday at South Callaway both relay teams finished second.

The two teams are made of five girls: Taylor Covington, Molly Munsinger, Hannah Pruessner, Hannah Kruse, and Beth Schenck.  Munsinger runs on the 4x400 and Schenck on the 4x800.

The story behind these five is they are freshman.  In almost every meet this year they have ran against larger schools and have beaten the vast majority of them which is an early indicator of their willingness to compete.

Successful players or teams always seem to have a different demeanor than others and not in an arrogant way.  There is no way to describe it other than the look of determiniation and will to win.  The potential for greatest is there but must prove it first and Monday will be their first shot to do so.

Munsinger hands it off to Covington, who is the anchor on the 4x400m relay.

New Haven’s Michael Leath and Will Smith, two of New Haven’s top runners, were gone this past week on senior trip.  Leath runs the 100m, 200m, and 400m and Smith runs the 400m and 800m.  They will return for action in Monday’s conference meet.

The Shamrocks begin this week with the Four Rivers Conference Meet on Monday and then head to Fulton on Sat. May 5 for Districts.

The Conference Meet will be at Pacific High School on Monday and begins at 10 a.m.
