WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Missouri News Horizon-Saying “it’s the only plan out there”, Senator Roy Blunt says he’s proud to be a sponsor of the so-called Cut, Cap and Balance Act. The bill was introduced on the Senate floor Thursday, and Blunt spoke in favor as a co-sponsor. At a news conference following his speech, Blunt said he and other Republicans in congress are willing to raise the national debt limit, but only if legislative safe guards are in effect to “change behaviors.” The bill would cut non-military spending back to 2006 levels, cap various programs and budgets and allow ten years for the states to pass a federal balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The House passed the legislation earlier this week. But Senate leader Harry Reid says the bill has “a one in a million shot” in the Senate. Blunt says he expects the bill to come to a vote sometime over the weekend.
