Austin Madden picked up is seventh win on the season and struck out seven, leading New Haven to a District Championship.

St. Elizabeth, Mo. – Wednesday night New Haven knocked off number one seeded St. Elizabeth to win a District Championship 3-2.  Austin Madden threw a complete game for the Shamrocks giving up two runs on five hits and struck out seven, improving his record to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in postseason play.

The Shamrocks quickly took a 2-0 in the first inning.  John Carey had a one out double to right field after Madden’s one out single.  New Haven took advantage of a dropped third strike allowing Madden to score the game’s first run.  The Rocks added their second run of the inning off a two out RBI single from Blake Eggers.

Garrett Schoenfeld (pictured right) began the third inning with a leadoff base hit.  Schoenfeld advanced to second on a wild pitch and in scoring position.  The next pitch Kyle Ruediger singled to right field, scoring Schoenfeld and a 3-0 lead for New Haven.

In the bottom of the fifth St. Elizabeth loaded the bases with one out, but Madden came through as he had done all night, striking out Casey Helton, then forced Conner Beck to line out to second.

The Hornets were able to squeeze two runs out of Madden in the sixth, but that was all they would get as Madden finished off St. Elizabeth, advancing New Haven into the state sectionals that will be held at New Haven on Monday.

Coach Jim Scheer said after the game, “Austin [Madden] threw great which is a big key.  I think he looks fairly confident on the mound…he actually shows almost no emotion which is perfectly find with me…he’s throwing pretty darn hard right now.”

Wednesday’s win marks the first time New Haven has won three games straight this year, improving to 10-13 overall and 3-0 in the postseason.

Monday night New Haven will host the Class 1 Sectionals, first pitch will be 6 p.m. against Green Ridge (12-8).
