Wentzville, Mo
-- Coming off a second place finish last year in the Class 2 State Tournament the Lady Shamrocks season opener last night, is not how a team likes to begin their season.

Kelsey Pecaut led the Rocks with a team high eight kills and two aces, but it was the teams defense, committing 38 errors that lead to the Rocks first loss of the season, losing in three sets to the Timberland Wolves 25-22, 23-25, 26-24 in a non-conference match.

We spoke briefly with Coach Sharen Speckhals after the game.  Speckhals said, “Defense has been our number one focus so far in practice and one of our goals for this year.”  Dispite the disappointing loss, the Rocks showed that no matter what they will not give up.

Late in the second set the Rocks were down 21-18 and only three points from losing in two sets when they rallied out scoring the Wolves seven to one and sending the game to a third set.

The Rocks would battle back again in the third set to tie it up 22-22 after being down 21-18. Elise McDonald lead the Rocks attempt at another comeback recording two of her game total five kills and a chance to steal a victory.  However, the Rocks unforced errors and poor defense ended up costing them the game.

Speckhals, said, “Obviously we had way to many errors tonight.  The one positive thing I saw was how we came back in the second set to win.”

JV Game Notes:

The JV squad defeated Timberland 19-25, 17-25.  Katie Peirick and Emily Kallmeyer lead the Rocks to a season opener victory.  Peirick had a team high with 15 points served and Kallmeyer 8 points.
