Shamrocks win season opener 60-50

Montgomery, Mo. – Ryan Menke scored a game high 24 points, 16 in the second half.  Menke was 6-10 from the field and 8-9 from the line.  Charlie Tritch scored 13 of his 17 in the first half, helping New Haven to a 60-50 win, in tonights first round of Montgomery County Tournament.

Bowling Green came out playing an aggressive half court man-to-man defense, forcing several turnovers by the Rocks in the first quarter.  New Haven clung to a 14-9 lead after eight minutes of play.

Bowling Green went on a 12-2 run in the second, not allowing New Haven to score until the 5:30 mark.  The Bobcats took the lead (16-21), when Menke converted a three-point play, ending the Bobcats run.  Bowling Green hit three 3’s in the quarter and went to the locker rooms with a halftime lead 24-26.

The second half New Haven slowly wore down the Bearcats by playing tough defense and did a better job of guarding their shooters.  The Rocks held Bowling Green scoreless the last 2:43 in the third, outscoring them 14-9 and leading 38-35 after three quarters.  New Haven continued making it hard for the Bearcats to get anything down on the offensive end.

In the fourth, New Haven went on a 15-4 run, only giving up four points in the first four minutes of the quarter.  The Shamrocks, lead by Menke’s 16, second half points defeated Bowling Green 60-50.

New Haven will next play on Thurs at 6 p.m. against the winner of Fulton and Clopton.
