Superman returns, Smith and Patakey advance to state

Centralia, Mo - Superman walked away from Saturday’s Class 1 sectionals with three 1st place finishes, advancing to next weekend’s Missouri State Track Meet.

Michael Leath began the day by running his best time of the year in the 100m dash (11.47) chalking up his first win in the meet.

Leath continued his winning streak by taking first in the 400m dash and then topped off his Superman like performance by breaking the school record for the third time this year in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 22.98.

Next weekend Leath will have the opportunity to finish his senior year as a state champion, however he will first have to qualify in the pre-limens on Fri.

Will Smith finished fourth in the 800m run and advancing to state.

The lone freshman on the boy’s side, Dominick Patakey, shaved nine seconds off his time, running a career best in the 3200m run finishing second with a time of 10:40.  Patakey was a few steps behind La Plata’s freshman, who finished with a time of 10:39.
