--The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports (MSHP) that 2012 continues to be a deadly year on Missouri’s roadways. Statistics from the MSHP shows that traffic crash deaths are running 11 percent ahead of the figures from last year.

So far, 595 people have died on Missouri’s highways this year, compared to 535 at this time last year. Earlier this year, the figures were running about 20 percent ahead of last year.

Surprisingly enough, 2011 marked the lowest number of traffic fatalities on Missouri’s roadways since 1949.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports that 63 percent of those killed so far this year were not wearing a seat belt.
