Union, Mo - Franklin County Fair officials released the following statement this morning regarding the cancellation of Thursday's fireworks display

"Due to the dry and hot weather that has affected our area lately, and will continue to do so, the Union Jaycees have made the decision to cancel the fireworks show this year, July 5."

"We realize this may be a disappointment to many but we, along with the Union Fire Protection District, believe this is the best decision for the safety of our community."

"Our hope is that all of you also take the warnings that have been issued seriously as well. Thank you for your continued support. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to your plans, but we really believe this is the best decision for our community."

The extreme dry conditions have forced local municipalities to cancel their annual firework displays.

Washington, Pacific, and Owensville have all canceled their Fourth of July firework displays.

We have not received information whether Hermann has cancelled their event.

We will keep you posted.
