Union resident rear-ended, receives moderate injuries

Union, Mo. - Coy Smith, 85, of Union sustained moderate injuries in a two-vehicle accident this afternoon in Union, while stopped in traffic on Highway 50, .6 miles west of Independence Ave.

 

Smith was traveling westbound on Highway 50 in a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and was stopped in traffic when a 2011 Chevrolet Express, driven by Chad Keith, 32, of Leslie, also traveling westbound, failed to observe the stopped vehicle, causing Keith to strike the rear of Smith's vehicle.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.  Keith did not sustain any injuries.  Smith was taken to Mercy Hospital, Washington, by Union Ambulance.  Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
